Super director/hip hop artist, Tabi Bonney does it again. This time he masterminds the artwork for Interscope hip hop artist, Wale’s video “My Sweetie”.  The song… classic, so what better way to represent it than a video of the same caliber? “My Sweetie(Spray It)” is produced by Apple Juice Kid, and samples a 1979 hit entitled “My Sweetie, My Sugar (Let Me Love You)” by Sierra Leonean artist Bunny Mack. “Let Me Love You” was a turntable regular at every African function in the 70’s and 80’s, and still is today.

“This is for everybody who ever was forced to go to African parties wit they parents in the 80s, 90s”, says Wale. Wale’s “My Sweetie” brilliantly ties in younger generation Africans to their elders and culture in a modern way. Both young and old love it and can relate.

Tabi Bonney, who is also West African, knew he had to take part of the movement and add his special touch of a traditional visual for the song. He recreated a typical African house party which included African music, dancing, cuisine, and the biggest custom of any Nigerian celebration, spraying.

The song is Wale’s biggest attempt to break music barriers, which is one of his main goals in the industry. This movement is sure to keep the African culture alive in music. The video looks like tons of fun and we cannot wait to see the final product.  Look Out for it soon!

Hollywood Loses Another Star: Brittany Murphy Dead At 32

Published by The Glit under News, Uncategorized

Actress Brittany Murphy, who landed her acting debut in the movie “Clueless”, was pronounced dead this morning upon arrival at Cedars-Saini Medical Center in L.A.  Murphy’s mother was the one that found her unconscious in the shower; a nightmare for any parent. Paramedics determined that she was in full cardiac arrest and immediately performed CPR. The procedure was repeated up until they reached the medical center, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful. A death investigation has been launched by the LAPD.

Murphy had an acting resume of over 25 movies, and even dabbled around in the music biz for a while.  America couldn’t help but notice her mega-transformation from a cute chubby brunette, to a blonde bombshell, which helped her score a position in Maxim’s 100 Hottest Women in 2003. Like most Hollywood stars Murphy had her battles, but most importantly, she made an amazing contribution to the American culture. Our prayers go out to her family and loved ones.

Rihanna feat. Young Jeezy- “Hard”

Published by The Glit under Uncategorized

As usual, Rihanna is keeping us all at attention!

Her new video for her latest single “Hard” feat. Young  Jeezy has a sexy couture-military theme including mud scenes, a pink military tank (love it!), machine guns, and more. I love that Rihanna edged out the nude bodysuit from her ”Russian Roulette” vid with a little bit of duct tape.

This very sexy video—directed by Melina—will definitely have all the soldiers saluting.

Rihanna’s Rated R album in stores now!

Cincinnati Receiver Chris Henry

Cincinnati Bengals Receiver Chris Henry

Domestic violence in the entertainment industry is nothing new or pretty, especially when it has been taken too far. Sadly in the case of 26 year old Cincinnati Bengal receiver, Chris Henry, it was. The pro-football player was pronounced officially dead today, after suffering serious injuries from a domestic scrapple with his fiancé, Loleini Tonga. It was reported that Henry fell off of a pickup truck while trying to stop his wife from leaving.  The two began quarreling at their home, which led Tonga to flee the house in a yellow pickup truck. According to a witness, Henry Jumped into the back of the moving truck and began banging on the back window.

Police say that at some point while Tonga was driving, Henry was released from the back of the truck. The direct cause of the death is still unknown.

Ladies and Gents, it is never that serious and nothing is worth risking your life. We all have to learn to stop, and think about it because the result of our anger could be irreversible. Our prayers go out to the friends and family of Chris Henry.

The Element of Freedom

Published by The Glit under News, Uncategorized

Elementof FreedomAlicia Keys hasn’t only uncovered the element of freedom—she’s uncovered the element of authenticity too. On her fourth album, The Element of Freedom, released Dec. 15th, she has—once again—asserted herself as an artist who puts the music first. Keys harnesses the power of her emotions and her unique vocal style and puts them into each track on the album. The 13-track LP is distinguished by its bold beats and mid-tempo vocals.

Naysayers have called the album a failed attempt at ‘being deep’ because it lacks lyrical prowess, but there is little debate over Keys’ vocals or  arrangments.

She wanted each song is to gradually elevate listeners—ultimately taking them to a place that evokes the feeling of being free. “The way that the songs progress are gonna take you on a natural high. I want you to feel out-of-the-box, feel inspired. You’re definitely going to be taken on a trip. It’s a journey,” Keys said.

Catch Alicia on NBC’s Today Show tomorrow!

Will It Stick? Nations Capitol Legalizes Gay Marriage

Published by The Glit under Uncategorized

gay marriageThat’s one up for homosexuals in the United States.  After a council vote of 11 to 2, same sex marriage was legalized today in Washington, DC. But the question is will it stick? As hard as homosexuals are fighting for their right of equality, there are many who are fighting just as hard against same sex marriage. Although the bill was approved, and is awaiting signature from Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, homosexuals in D.C. are still anxious to see if the bill will endure a 30-day legislative review period. Opponents are sticking to their guns, and refuse to back down from the fight to overturn the bill. If it is able to withstand the review period, the bill will become law in the spring. Will it stick? I guess everyone will have to just wait and see.
