When 9-year-old Willow Smith debuted her mini-mohawk we knew she was a little rock star in the makings, and her new single ”Whip My Hair” proves just that. The Glit is feeling the fact that her music is age-appropriate and fun. The rumored Roc Nation signee is definitely following in her parents footsteps. Tell us what you think about “Whip My Hair”…Oh young Hollywood, how privileged are thee…
There is something about listening to a track entitled “Dirty After Dark” that makes your mind go places it probably shouldn’t go before dark. After indulging in the guilty pleasure of listening to “Dirty After Dark” by newcomer CR Da Show during the early A.M hours, I must admit, I felt a bit dirty—but in a good way.
Independent singer-songwriter CR Da Show emerges from the flourishing DMV (DC, MD, and VA) music scene with sultry vocals, seductive lyrics atop a hypnotic beat on his debut single “Dirty After Dark”, which is bound to be a staple single on your ‘Late-Night-Lovin’ playlist. The seductive track produces an authentic R&B sound which will surely have your ears at attention!
The multitalented, CR, has already opened up for recording artists like Tank and Raheem Devaughn, and recently Nappy Boy Entertainment head T-Pain a.k.a Teddy P personally gave him his stamp of approval. With an impressive ability to sing, write, and produce his own music, CR def has the key elements to stay grounded in the game.
Take a listen to –> Dirty After Dark <–and tell us if you give CR Da Show your stamp of approval! AND check out T-Pain Co-Signing CR after the jump…
Roc Nation recording artist Bridget Kelly has already spent plenty of time in the spotlight, but usually in the shadows of big names like Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
After being signed to Roc Nation in 2008, Bridget took to stages around the world performing alongside Jay-Z as a fill-in for Alicia Keys. When the 23-year-old NYC-bred singer/songwriter belted out the hook to “Empire State of Mind,” fans were left asking themselves “Who is that on stage with Jay-Z? Is that Alicia Keys?”
For the most part, the tour and a growing number of Twitter followers has helped Bridget Kelly a.k.a @theycallmeBK expose her true identity, but her debut album is sure to answer any unanswered question about who the budding singer really is.
Exclusive footage of Bridget Kelly in the studio with hit maker Ryan Leslie is a strong indicator that her debut LP is going to make waves. Check out the studio session…
We have all heard the old proverb: “When one door closes, another door opens.” For Soda Pop Entertainment/Island Def Jam Recording artist Asia’h Epperson that saying has proven to be absolutely true. When the stand-out vocalist was eliminated from American Idol in 2008, she departed the stage uttering these simple words, “It’s okay, this won’t be the last time you see me…”
After stepping out of the Idol spotlight, Asia’h continued to push on like she had done after facing her first major rejection—being refused a record deal by L.A Reid at the age of 16.
It was only a year after competing on Idol, when Asia’h received an unexpected call from the legendary Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. Taken by her compelling vocals and charisma, Babyface sought to nurture the budding star. Asia’h signed to Soda Pop soon after and has since completed her mixtape, Deal With It. When the DJ Don Cannon hosted mixtape hit the web in early June, downloads where just as resounding as American Idol votes.
If you’re thinking about putting 18-year-old R&B/Neo Soul singer Gwen Bunn in a category with other teen artists out today—hold that thought—because chances are that after hearing her music you will realize that the budding singer is better suited in a category alongside artists like India Arie, Erykah Badu, and Marsha Ambrosius.
Comparing the unsigned up-and-comer to vocalists like India and Erykah may seem a bit ill-fitting, but the young singer, songwriter, and producer has cultivated a soulful sound that most would agree is beyond her years.
Since deciding to establish herself as a solo artist a little over two years ago, Gwen has arranged, produced, and written over a two dozen R&B and Soul ballads, Rap lyrics, and composed her introduction LP The Verdict.
“Honestly I wouldn’t really call The Verdict an album…just yet. I’d call it an extra rough draft of what I would want my album to be,” she explains. “I named it The Verdict because if fans were to wonder well who is Gwen Bunn?…’And the verdict is’ this combination of songs that sound totally different from each other created on a keyboard from the third grade and music program that came with my laptop. I wrote all of the songs and produced the majority of everything except two of the tracks.”
Looks like Neo Soul/R&B artist Jazmine Sullivan took a few cues from the past to create her HOT! new single. The new track, entitled “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles)”, produced by Missy Elliot, fuses Old Skool Hip-Hop sounds with lyrics from the classic Mary J. Blige track “Be Happy” in the intro. Jazmine Sullivan’s soul-filled vocals over the classic mixed/break beat creates the perfect concoction of Hip-Hop/Soul and gives us a little taste of what we’ve been missing…can’t wait for the album!

BET Awards night was filled with some of our favorite music vets, but amongst the MVPs were a few rookies that are soon to be just as valuable to the music game. Among the faces of the future was singer/songwriter Elle Varner. The guitar toting songstress is the daughter of two songwriters who was accepted into the Clive Davis Program of Recorded Music while attending NYU. Upon graduating, Elle was awarded “most likely to get signed” and “most likely to win a Grammy.” It is clear that neither of those awards were given in vain. Soon after, Varner was signed to MBK Entertainment–the same company that manages artists like Alicia Keys and Le Toya Luckett. And we are looking forward to the “most likely to win a Grammy” accolade coming into flourish…but for now we’ll be waiting for Varner’s soon-coming debut album…we’ll keep you posted.

Hal Linton’s memorizing debut single “Mind Control” is now accompanied by an equally memorizing new video. The suggestive single/video are a fitting introduction for the Universal Motown Recording artist’s long-awaited album Return From the Future—both soulful and sensual…
We love receiving new projects from emerging artists. Recently, we were put on to singer/songwriter/composer Joonie’s latest video for his second single “So Fly” from his debut album Acoustic Love (released on April 27th). We’ve heard a lot about Joonie’s collaborative works with quality artists like Ruben Studdard, Elliot Yamin, Nappy Roots, Angie Stone, and Mos Def, and it seems that the Neo Soul/R&B up-and-comer really values authencity. His solo sound is all about velvety vocals and thoughtful lyrics…can’t wait to give you more from Joonie, but for now check out the vid for “So Fly”…
