I can safely say that independent singer-songwriter Jesse Boykins is one of the best, yet overlooked, vocalists out today. Early this week the budding soul singer took to the web and released a remake of one of my favorite Andre 3000 tracks “Prototype.” The up-and-comer pays proper homage to Mr. Andre Benjamin and The Isley Brothers with this quality cover—after listening, I think you’ll agree. Listen and tell us what you think about Boykins’ “Prototype” cover…
Does the word ‘POW’ look familiar? If it doesn’t—you clearly haven’t been following the M.E. movement. Which we find extremely hard to understand because practically everywhere you turn you will find Melody Ehsani’s designs adorning industry sweethearts like Keri Hilson, Rihanna , Ciara, Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, and most recently, Jazmine Sullivan wore Melody Ehsani’s lightening bolt earrings, medallions, and ‘POW’ ring in her new “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles)” video.
With everything from shoes to bamboos, the LA based and breed designer most definitely holds the ladies down.
But with the new fashion season comes change. Ehsani’s new Fall 2010 collection will also cater to the fella’s.
Her Capsule M.E.NS collection includes Varsity, Galaxy, and Spaceman pins that can be customized like her beloved ladies jewelry. This looks like just the beginning for Eshani’s M.E.NS collection–we will keep you posted guys!…Ladies, you already know we got you on the M.E Fall ‘10 collection…

It seems like old skool is the way to go these days! Everyone seems to be throwing it back lately, including the creative potty-mouth Cee-Lo Green. His retro new vid is complete with Motown styled back-up singers and a 50s’ style diner. I’m not sure how the new vid is going to work on network television, but fuck it—sometimes you just have to say “fuck you”. Those two little words speak volumes…
This Just in! Soulful Songstress Jazmine Sullivan released her much anticipated video “Holding You Down” off her upcoming album Love Me Back today – and of course we had to share. A few months back, we bumped to the old school inspired single and could not wait to see the visual. Well here it is! The video’s theme fits the track quite well and is definitely relatable in more ways than one, for both the ladies and 80’s babies. Check out what I mean and watch it now!
Take a listen to the “Hold You Down” REMIX feat. Ms. Mary J. Blige after the jump…
If Vaughn Anthony’s name doesn’t ring a bell, than his voice might. Much like his big bro John Legend, the singer-songwriter’s raw sound can only be described as pure soul. But aside from the melt-your-heart vocals—clearly a treasured family jewel—the brothers couldn’t be more opposite.
The HomeSchool recording artist—Legend’s label—is following the same path as his older brother, but he is not walking in his shadow. His often sexy lyrics and athletic appeal will definitely make you question whether he is the brother to bring home to mother. Anthony has done hip-hop collaborations with his labelmate Estelle on a track entitled “Paragraphs of Love” from Ghostface’s latest album. He was also featured on the track “Alright” with Rick Ross. And his latest release entitled “In Your shoes,” off of his latest EP The Future features Universal Recording vocalist Olivia.
I think Vaughn Anthony is most definitely walking in his own shoes.
Listen and let us know what you think…”In Your Shoes” feat. Olivia.
Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music recording artist Big Sean has officially debuted his new video for the Olympicks-produced single “What U Doin? (Bull$#!@ing)” from his debut album Finally Famous slated to drop on September 14th.
Contrary to the title of the new single, his grind is most definitely NO ”Bull$#!@’. There has been a major buzz surrounding the 22-year old Hip-Hop artist on blogs and in the mixtape circuit since he dropped his UKnowBigSean mixtape in 2009 and the Finally Famous mixtape in 2007, shortly after being signed to G.O.O.D. Now the up-and-comer is ready to do it big with his debut LP and another mixtape, tentatively entitled B.I.G, which will drop later this year. Check it out the new vid!
Check out a new vid from singer London for “Action” off his Lights, Camera, Action (The Screener) EP.
The video, directed by Erk Tha Jerk, depicts a true story about what the zealous new comer is all about…ACTION! London is known in Bay Area for grinding to get his music heard…looks like it’s paying off.
If you’re thinking about putting 18-year-old R&B/Neo Soul singer Gwen Bunn in a category with other teen artists out today—hold that thought—because chances are that after hearing her music you will realize that the budding singer is better suited in a category alongside artists like India Arie, Erykah Badu, and Marsha Ambrosius.
Comparing the unsigned up-and-comer to vocalists like India and Erykah may seem a bit ill-fitting, but the young singer, songwriter, and producer has cultivated a soulful sound that most would agree is beyond her years.
Since deciding to establish herself as a solo artist a little over two years ago, Gwen has arranged, produced, and written over a two dozen R&B and Soul ballads, Rap lyrics, and composed her introduction LP The Verdict.
“Honestly I wouldn’t really call The Verdict an album…just yet. I’d call it an extra rough draft of what I would want my album to be,” she explains. “I named it The Verdict because if fans were to wonder well who is Gwen Bunn?…’And the verdict is’ this combination of songs that sound totally different from each other created on a keyboard from the third grade and music program that came with my laptop. I wrote all of the songs and produced the majority of everything except two of the tracks.”
Check out exclusive song snippets from Dondria’s debut album Dondria vs. Phatfffat. From the sounds of it, this album is shaping up to be a cohesive collection of quality R&B ballads with a few uptempo tracks like her latest release “Shawty Wus Up” featuring Diamond and Johnta. So far, The Glit is feeling “Can You Help Me” and “No More” which samples 50 Cent’s “21 Questions” beat…Can’t wait to hear more….In stores August 17th…
Dirty Money is the name of the band, but when vocalist Dawn Richard is rolling solo there is nothing dirty about her. Infact, she is quite glamourous, and she portrays that and more in her upcoming spread in Paris’s Ghubar Magazine. Check out more photos from the July issue of Ghubar below…
