FASHION FYI: ‘The Color Clash’ Color-Block Designed Swimwear…

Actress Deepika Padukone Covers Vogue India in Color-Block Swimsuit

It’s time to turn-up the style-o-meter on your summer wardrobe with this season’s spunky swimwear trend, color-blocking. Swimsuits with flashy, multi-colored prints and patterns are fun—but BOLD blocks of color are making the biggest statement this summer.

Nearly every high-end designer has included color-block designed swimsuits in their Spring/Summer 2012 collections, and the trend has translated into retail in a major way. Designers ranging from Vince Camuto, Jason Wu, Christian Dior, Michael Kors, Karla Colletto, and Louis Vuitton have all been credited for their sough-after color-block swimsuits, and lower-end designers have followed suit mimicking the popular fashion trend.

Brands like ASOS, Roxy, Spanx, and Shape FX, have color-blocking covered, and at a low cost. So finding a swimsuit that suits your style and your wallet shouldn’t be too difficult.

If you want to be unabashedly bold and bright while beach side, a swimsuit that artfully pairs two electrifying, contrasting colors might be your thing. But if you prefer to take in the sun—not outshine it—a neutral paired with a bright might fit your taste. For a more classic look, try a black and white color-block design—these opposites always play nicely together.

Color-blocking also makes it quite easy for beach-bound belles to seamlessly mix and match their most vibrant bikini solids. Last year’s solid bottom with this year’s bold bright top might be the secret recipe for your effortless beach look.

Whether you’re sporting a one-piece or two, a bandeau top or halter, a tankini or monokini—this striking trend will have you riding the waves, and the color wheel, in style this summer.
