EVENT: WOMEN IN MEDIA MENTORING INITIATIVE

Women In Media Mentoring Initiative

Founded just two years ago by Jack Myers in 2011, Women In Media Mentoring Initiative has been connecting female professionals in media, marketing and advertising at all levels of their careers. Starting out as a dinner party with 16 industry friends, Jack Myers has now connected over 1500 women and counting at WIMMI events all across the country.

Last month I was delighted to attend the WIMMI event in NYC, and I must say that it was extremely remarkable and informative! The event was held at the Horizon Media office building in Tribeca and was hosted by Jack Myers and Horizon Media. While mingling and networking with other women in media, I indulged in the astonishingly delish, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres that were being served.

WIMMI gave you the chance to network with some of the most incredible and established women in media as well as sign up for various roundtable discussions. Compensation Negotiation, Who am I really and how do I add value, Reboot Your Life, Your Personal Brand, and The Art of Networking, were the five roundtable discussions offered that evening. I signed up for Compensation Negotiation and The Art of Networking which were the two roundtables that really stood out and seemed most interesting. Compensation Negotiation was led by Kathy Aaronson, Chief Executive of Sales Athlete Executive Search, which is a premier executive search firm focused on media, technology, and entertainment. Kathy spoke about her experience and discussed how she negotiated over $500 million in compensation over the past two decades. Talk about impressive! Lydia Loizides, Co-chair of WIMMI’s mentorship committee and founder of Gggrit, a networking platform exclusively for women, led The Art of Networking roundtable. She discussed how to build an effective, meaningful and powerful network of career advisers and mentors. Out of these two roundtables I really enjoyed and learned a lot from The Art of Networking!

Overall, I would rate the event as a must-attend. I was able to learn a wealth of knowledge, network with other women who hold the same interest as me, and leave with three new professional connections! Whether you’re a woman trying to get your foot in the door of media or just trying to expand your knowledge and network in this industry, Women In Media Mentoring Initiative is an excellent organization to become a part of….Their events definitely do not disappoint!
